Lake Erie Trip

Day 4

Day 4 was just sick!! We headed back to Erie and launched from Dunkirk with blue skies and 75 degree air temps in the forecast. After another blistering ride for 7 miles from the ramp, we found a bay that ended up being just stock piled with nothing but chunky quality smallies. We used jerkbaits to locate the fish when we first pulled in then honed in on them with smoke with black,purple and gold flake Finicky Ticklers rigged on a drop shot with an 18” lead. JP was an absolute beast with this technique. I don’t know which one of my arms was more sore, the one catching all my fish or the one netting all of JP’s fish! We caught well over 100 smallmouth the final day, all of which were between 3 and 5 1/2 lbs. Landing these powerful Erie bronzebacks on light action drop shot rods rigged with 5lb test line will definitely test your skills. But well worth every heart pounding moment. After my best smallmouth adventure to date, I’m already looking forward to heading back up in the fall for round two with these powerhouse bass…as a matter of fact, it can’t come fast enough!
